Description
Aluminium hydroxide and Magnesium hydroxide are antacids that bring about their action by neutralization of hydrochloric acid in the gastric secretions. Simethicone (Activated methyl polysiloxane) is an antifoam/antigas agent; it acts by lowering surface tension when administered by mouth, causes bubbles of gas in the GIT to coalesce thus aiding their dispersion.
Indications
Symptomatic relief of gastro-intestinal disorders associated with hyperacidity such as peptic ulcer, dyspepsia, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, gastritis, pyrosis and heartburn in pregnancy, flatulence and abdominal discomfort due to excess GI gas.
Dosage and Administration
5-10ml between meals and at bedtime; not exceeding 90ml in a 24-hour period.
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to any of its constituents; colostomy or ileosomy; renal failure or impairment; appendicitis or undiagnosed rectal and gastrointestinal bleeding; ulcerative colitis, chronic diarrhoea; gastric outlet obstruction.
Warning and Precautions
Patients with decreased gastrointestinal motility and kidney disease.
Side Effects
Mild diarrhoea, constipation, fatigue and very rarely weight loss.
